“feeder road”…. huh?

I have no electricity in my apartment. And while I was somewhat proactive and bought a shower curtain, I neglected to get a rod for the curtain (which makes me think I should have kept at least one of those 8 rods I found while packing up and leaving California).

I did get to take a cold shower this morning, doing my best to keep the water in the tub, but I can’t say it was the most fulfilling bathing experience of my life.

There are lots of problems with the house I want to buy… not sure if the seller will be willing to fix them, but I suppose it will come down to how much they want to sell the house. I just might be back to looking at new places, though.

I’m supposed to be in Austin by 5am tomorrow to leave for a short trip to California to wrap up some loose ends there. This means leaving here by 3am. Something tells me I’m not going to get much sleep between now and getting on the plane. Good thing I slept those 12 hours last night in my apartment with the stale, still, hot air on a Wal-mart air mattress under a bath towel. So classy, I know. Nobody better ever call me high maintenance ever again.

I’m at the coffee shop charging my cell phone. I need to go buy toilet paper and confirm a cat sitter. :)

So…. change of plans again - I rented a truck and a trailer to tow my car and I’m all packed up and ready to leave for Waco first thing in the morning. I’m excited… but feeling anxious about driving on my own.. the truck is no problem, but the trailer is a whole different story.

Anyway, the plan is to hopefully get to my new home by Thursday night, although I’ll probably have to sleep on the floor or something since I don’t think I’ll have the energy to unload the mattress. Maybe I’ll get a hotel. I’ve spent the last 24 hours gathering up furniture to move with me. I figured if I have a truck, I might as well fill it! So now I have 2 couches, a round dining room table, tons of chairs, 2 dressers, a cedar chest, a rocking chair…. my apartment is going to be full!

I bought some books on CD today. One novel, Freakanomics, and Total Money Makeover. Ha! And Patti is going to burn me some episodes of This American Life. I should be set with listening options.

I’ll only be reachable by cell for the next 72 hours or so. Please call! Even if I can’t answer because of driving, it’ll be awesome to hear your voices on my voicemail. If you don’t have my number, it’s available on my resume which is here.

Think good driving and no traffic thoughts for me!

So… saying goodbyes in Columbus so soon after saying goodbyes in California is killing me. But… this week in Waco I found a house I love, although I’m not actually sure it is going to be in my price range. Would anyone like to move to Waco to get a job and live with me?! There are some awesome things about being single and being able to pick up and go and do things on your own, and then there are some really hard things… like trying to figure out how you will get your dresser and mattress up the stairs into your little temporary 2nd floor apartment without having to ask people you hardly know to help you.

But anyway… let’s talk about knitting. I finished the blanket a few weeks ago! The cats approve.

Also… my cousin sent this pic of her little boy in the sweater and hat I had sent to them a few months ago. It completely cracks me up.

And finally… some socks I finished and love how they look, but not really how they wear (they tend to end up with most of the fabric at my ankles. Maybe they will be display socks.

So anyway…there’s a couple of other things, too, but I’m too lazy to take pictures right now. Perhaps before I head out of here to drive back to Waco. The current plan is to get a hitch installed on the back of the Honda Civic I bought from Carina (who is moving to SWEDEN on Monday), and rent a trailer to carry whatever I can find here. At least this means I get to start with a bed and a dresser, although I still imagine that $5 Target canvas folding chairs are going to be my living room furniture for awhile.

Off to dinner at Buca di Beppo!
